Carrie Moyer es una artista y escritora. Su trabajo ha sido ampliamente expuesto, tanto en Estados Unidos como en Europa. Los museos incluyen la Bienal Whitney 2017, y una encuesta itinerante, Carrie Moyer: Pirate Jenny, que se originó en el Museo Tang en 2013.
Moyer ha recibido premios de las fundaciones Guggenheim y Joan Mitchell, Anonymous y Creative Capital, entre otros.
Yuxtaponiendo lo antiguo, lo moderno y lo contemporáneo, Moyer desgarra las imágenes de sus viejos contextos y las hace circular en una nueva – «cableado cruzado», lo llama.
Deslizándose entre lo abstracto y lo representativo, los lienzos crudos se construyen con estratos de color translúcido y opaco, formas positivas y negativas, sólidos y siluetas que se refieren a diferentes períodos históricos: figuras antiguas de fertilidad con caderas abultadas; jarrones con los pechos circundando su perímetro; manchas turbias que recuerdan las pinturas del surrealismo biomórfico.
Con la fotógrafa Sue Schaffner, cofundó uno de los primeros proyectos de arte público de lesbianas, Dyke Action Machine!, que estuvo activo en Nueva York entre 1991-2008.
La escritura de Moyer ha aparecido antologías y publicaciones periódicas como Art in America, Brooklyn Rail, Artforum, Modern Painters y otros.
Moyer es representada por DC Moore Gallery.
